Amon Bazy's Obituary
Amon Richard Bazy was born in Kansas City, Kansas to parents Otis Bazy and Alberta Haskins Bazy on November 5, 1931. He was the third oldest of 5 siblings and the oldest boy (having 2 older sisters and 2 younger brothers). J 1 He was educated in the Kansas City School System and went as far ; as high school. However, prior to graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged in 1952, he returned to Kansas briefly, attended Lincoln Jr. College ... and then made his way to Los Angeles, CA to join his family members who had also relocated from Kansas. After arriving in Los Angeles, he continued his education at L A. City College, studying engineering.
Richard held a variety of jobs throughout his career. In 1970 he finally obtained employment with the City of Los Angeles where his love of engineering and calculations could be utilized and expanded. He began his 26-year career as a Draftsman in the Bureau of Engineering, retiring in 1996. It was this employment that opened the door for him to meet a young lady who also began her City career in 1970 ... Miss Diane Williams. They 'courted' for approximately 3 years and on August 19, 1973, this 'confirmed bachelor' married the love of his life.
In 1990, Richard united with the Great Hope Missionary Baptist Church to serve the Lord along with Diane. In 1992 they became part of a God-led group of Christians who, in 1994, organized Faith Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church. Richard was a Charter Member of Faith Inspirational and the first Deacon ordained after its organization. He thoroughly enjoyed his relationship with God ... and God's people. He was a member of the Young at Heart Auxiliary (senior saints) and the Mission Sick Visitation Team. He delighted in picking up worshippers and bringing them to church, which he considered his ministry @. His favorite Scripture was II Chronicles 7:12-16, and he quoted it often during Prayer Services and Devotion at church.
Richard gave everyone a nickname and once he did that, you were branded. He became known as 'Deacon Pork Chop' for obvious reasons. He had a great sense of humor and a gift for handling mathematics that was uncanny.
Richard was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Hallie Shain. He will be fondly and lovingly remembered by: his wife of 40 years, Diane; his sister, Janella King of Los Angeles; his brothers, Otis Bazy [Jean] of Kansas City, MO and Clark Bazy [Verna] of Kansas City, KS; nieces Melba Jan King and Octavia Lynn King of Los Angeles, Jackie Bazy of Atlanta, GA and Betty Lou of Kansas; nephews Marvin King of San Bernardino, Michael King of Las Vegas, Wendy Shain of Rialto and Jay Bazy of Kansas; Godsons, Jermaine Baker, Messiah Daniels and J'Shaan Dixon; Godsisters, Minnie Powell and Pat Davis; special caretaker, Joann Gray; and a huge host of extended family members, church members and friends.
