Arthur's Life Reflections
Arthur Borner was born March 27, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Earnest
Barner Sr. and Butterine Wilson Barner. He was the third child of five children. Arthur
accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev.
Brown at Saint Paul AME Church in Bogalusa, Louisiana.
From infancy to thirteen year he lived under the guidance of his grandparents, Eula and
Jim Sam. He attended Poplar Quarters Elementary School and after graduation he
went across town and attended Central Memorial High School. Arthur moved to Los
Angeles, CA with his late mother Butterine and step father, Andrew Charles Whitfield,
but soon decided to move back to Bogalusa with his late grand parents, Eula and Jim
Sam. His school activity was to drive and maintain the school bus for Central Memorial
High School until he went to the military March 30, 1954.
After nine years and three months , he was discharged and has lived in Los Angeles
until now.
Arthur married Yvonne Peters Borner and to that union they had four children, Beverly
Ann Borner, Arthur Borner Jr, Libirio Borner, and Brodrick Borner. The marriage lasted
eighteen years before going in different directions.
Arthur met and married Velma Ruth Walker Borner on September 21, 1974. To that
union they have one daughter, Shelley R. Borner, and a God daughter Sharon Annett
Lewis.
Arthur tried many different job opportunities such as Kaiser Hospital, working for LA
County, Movie Acting, and Private Duty Nursing. He settled at TRW in the late sixties
until retiring on October 1, 1992. Prior to retiring from TRW, Arthur and Velma bought a
Barber School, and Shelley managed it until she met and married Robert, and they
moved to Oklahoma. In 1990, Arthur named the school, Borner's Barber College and
has operated it until present.
Arthur attended Double Rock Baptist in Compton for many years; then he moved his
membership to University Christian Church. Arthur and Velma went to Andersonville
Theological Seminary as a couple and received their Masters Degree in Theology in
2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Barner, Sr and Butterine Wilson Barner;
his grandparents Eula and Jim Sam; brothers Earnest Borner Jr, Son(Myrtle); Elmer
Borner "Dubbie"; Charles Andrew Whitfield; sister, Barbara Ann Whitfield all of Los
Angeles. Son in law, Robert Fuller of Lancaster, CA.
Arthur leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Velma Ruth Walker Borner of Los
Angeles; his children Beverly Borner Edmonson of Birmingham, AL; Arthur Borner Jr,
Libirio Borner, and Brodrick Borner, all of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Shelley R Borner
Fuller and grand daughter, Chelsea Fuller of Lancaster, CA; grand daughter, Patricia
Deshay Childs "Shay" of Las Vegas, NV; God daughter, Sharon A. Lewis of Los Angeles,
CA. and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
