Obituary
Claiborne Phillips was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 7, 1952 to Edna Johnson and Solomon Phillips. He moved to Compton California at the age of seven with his mother Edna, and his brother James and Walter (from Edna’s previous marriage) and their step father George Frazier, who had more children with Edna. That union was blessed with four more children: Alvin, Anthony, Sonya, and Hugh. Claiborne also shares 6 other siblings from his father Solomon who reside in Texas.
Claiborne met and married Sheila Johnson. This union was blessed with two children: Claiborne Thomas Phillips and Brian Phillips. He later met and married Yvette Rene: one daughter: Clairee was born to this union. He also took on the role of step dad to six of Yvette’s previous kids.
Claiborne was a hard worker, who dedicated most of his service in the trucking industry, with the main and longest employment being with “The Parkers.”
Claiborne received Christ at a young age. He joined Macedonia Baptist Church where he serviced on the Usher’s ministry for a short time. Claiborne continued to be a service to those around him. Claiborne was the life of any party, and always managed to show up for his friends and family.
After retirement Claiborne enjoyed watching sports, spending time with his family and friends, and most of all playing dominos! Dominos could have been his second job. In fact, he acquired his nickname “Bone” from his friends of the neighborhood, in whom he used to always play with.
On July 23, 2022, Claiborne Phillips departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edna Frazier, Solomon Phillips, George Frazier, his brothers: James Fleming, Walter Phillips, Alvin Frazier, Victor Phillips, Theodore Phillips, one sister Francis Davis, along with one son, Claiborne Thomas Phillips.
Claiborne leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his son, Brian Phillips, his daughter Clairee Phillips, two sisters Sonya Frazier and Lydia Davis and three brothers Freddie Phillips, Donald Ray and Anthony Frazier, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Fleming, two grandchildren: Alyssa and Kyle Phillips, one unborn great granddaughter Kehlani, several step grandchildren, Sumyiah, Kaylise, Summer, Maddox and more: four nephews: James Jr, Walter, Calvin, and Tyrone Flemings: one niece, Manikki Grey: many great grand nephews and nieces including: Tata, Cora, TJ, DJ , Jayden, Micah, his ex-wife Yvette Rene and his six step children including: Malinda Whitaker-Law, Roxanne, Barbara, Teles, and April. His brother from another mother, Harold Martin and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
