Celebrating the Life of Eulalia Verdell Taylor
Eulalia Verdell Myres was born on June 27, 1924, in Bethany, Louisiana. Her parents were Gilbert and Emma Morgan Myres. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles Myres and sister Selsie Williams. Eulalia spent her early years in Bethany where she accepted Christ and united with St. John Baptist Church. Her family moved to Houston, Texas when she was eleven and there completed her education. Eulalia was introduced to Bertram Taylor by her brother Charles. They married on October 12, 1941, and moved to San Pedro, California and began their family. Eulalia and her hus band moved to Los Angeles, California in 1950 and raised four children. Eulalia was a housewife and mother. Eulalia and Bertram attended several Baptist churches in the Los Angeles area before uniting with South Vermont Avenue Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Her husband served as a deacon while she sang in the choir, the women's ministry and participated in the church outreach feeding the homeless and needy in the community. They remained at South Vermont Baptist Church until age and health issues required a move to Riverside, California to be closer to their children. Eulalia enjoyed visiting with tiler family and friends, working the polls during elections, sewing, walking on her treadmill, and working out at the gym. Eulalia was also an excellent cook and her rolls and sweet potato pie were the highlight of many family dinners. On July 3, 2013, Eulalia Taylor was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 71 years, Bertram and four children, Joyce Ashley, Bertram, Jr. (Georgia), Margaret White and Patricia Taylor; nine grand children: Bertram Ill, Darrin, Miranda, Lorenzo, James, Toyling, Eulalia, George and Jason; fifteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; two sisters; Leona Walker of Long Beach and Dorothy Hopkins of Houston, Texas; one brother Gilbert Myres (Marian) of Houston, Texas, and a host of relatives and friends.
