Granvel Childs' Obituary
Granvel Childs was born on April21,1935, in Oklahoma to Annie Mae Childs (Grayson) and Sylvanister Childs. Sr. He lived most of his life in Los Angeles, CA "'here he remained until he was called home to be with the Lord.
Gran vel joined the US Army in March 1954. On May 24, 1965, he started his career with RTD now known as MTA (Metro Transportation Authority), and retired on June 27, 1997, after 32 years of service.
In 1958, Granvel met the love of his life, Edna Helen Childs (Edwards), and they were connected for
55 years before her passing on February 11, 2014.
Granvel was an honest and reliable man that you could always depend on to be there when you needed someone, and he would be there with no hesitation. He did not judge a book by its cover and would accept each person meeting them where they were and always had an encouraging word. Granvel accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age. He first joined Gospel Temple M.B.C in
1962 under the leadership of Reverend R.L. Sweeney. He served as an usher. Granvel was a faithful servant of God, who loved the Lord, his family, and the church. He was amongst the first members of True Worshippers of God Missionary Baptist Church in 1971 where he and his family attended and faithfully served. Granvel was committed to doing the will of God that was placed on his heart and life; serving in his calling to preach and teach the word of God where he did so faithfully. He'd visit members who were sick and shut-in to serve communion; he would pick up church members and drive them to and from church; he:: served as an usher and preacher. The only thing he did not do that he wished he could do was sing. He was a member of New Way Missionary Baptist Church where he continued to preach under the leadership of Ernest Waters. He later joined Greater Starlight M.B. Church, where he served under the leadership of Pastor Prentiss Lewis.
On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, God called Rev. Granvel Childs home, and he entered fully into the presence of the Lord.
Proceeding him in death are his parents Sylvanister Childs and Annie Mae Childs (Grayson); wife: Edna Helen Childs (Edwards); siblings: Betty Jo Childs Cheadle, Bennie Childs, Sylvanister Childs, James Earl Davis, JB Williams, Moty Davis, and Earah Cox; and granddaughter: Theresa Morris.
