Lorene Hamilton's Obituary
Lorene Hamilton was born on August 26, 1934 to Strickland Russell and Zepher Stevenson in Hennepin, Oklahoma. She confessed in Christ at an early age and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Lorene also received her early formal education in Pauls Valley. She studied Home Economics at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.
She married Mike Hamilton, Jr. in Pauls Valley. They were blessed with five children Sherry, Gregory, Maxine, Maxie, and Jerry.
While living in Pauls Valley, Lorene was employed as a domestic worker for well-to-do families, and she also maintained her own home for her family.
In 1967, Lorene joined her husband and moved the family to Los Angeles California, which remained her home until her passing. Lorene performed a number jobs in Los Angeles, the longest being a cashier at the Hilltop Market on 106th and Western; while maintaining a
household and raising a child with special needs. Lorene was also employed as a
home health care worker.
She found her spiritual rock and church home at The New Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Los Angeles. Lorene faithfully served as a member of the Mother’s Board and as the President of the Christian Woman’s Outreach for over twenty years. For many years, she came to the aid of her church congregation in their time of need as head of the Bereavement Committee with her dear friend Sister Joyce Baird. She coordinated numerous projects and activities such as cooking and etiquette classes.
Her greatest joy was doing for others. She believed that she was blessed and happy. So, it was rare for her to turn down a request for help from anyone. With family and friends spread across the United States and abroad, she was not shy about becoming a world traveler to enjoy their company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Hamilton Jr., daughter, Sherry and son Jerry, brother Ladon Russell and sister Stephine Marie Russell.
