Valencia L Grimes' Obituary
Valencia L. Grimes, affectionately known as “Val,” was born on January 3, 1963, to the union of Juanita Pauline and Will Henry Grimes, Jr., in Los Angeles, California.
Val began her educational journey at Main Street Elementary School, then attended John Adams Junior High School, and later graduated from L.A. High School. Val went on to pursue higher education, becoming a proud graduate of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in African American Studies. Always having a keen mind for business, she worked as a skilled tax professional for Ernst & Young and as an office manager for Samitaur Constructs. Her sharp insight, diligence, and dedication made a significant mark in every role she undertook
An avid sports fan, Val had a special love for the Chargers. Her passion for the game was only surpassed by her deep love for her family, God, and the church, which were the foundation of her life. Val was saved under the leadership of Supt. Marks at Higher Praise COGIC and she served as Church Administrator at Saints Home COGIC for the last 11 years.
Val’s commitment to the church extended beyond administrative duties. She served as the Choir President at Saints Home COGIC, leading with enthusiasm and dedication. She also sang regularly with the Jurisdictional Choir for the Southern California 2nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and the District Choir for the United in Love District. Her love for singing was an outpouring of her faith, and her voice was a testament to her heart.
Throughout her life, Val was dedicated to the church, serving with joy and devotion. She was always working diligently behind the scenes to ensure that everything ran smoothly, whether it was organizing events or providing support to her fellow church members.
As an aunt and godmother, Val was a pillar of support, love, and encouragement. She cherished her nieces, nephews, and godchildren with all her heart. Her nurturing spirit, wisdom, and joy were constant blessings in their lives, and she was always there to offer a listening ear, a word of advice, or a simple hug.
Valencia’s true calling was being a giver. She had a heart for others and always sought to be a blessing wherever she could. Whether the choir needed a voice, someone needed a ride, or a person needed a place to stay, Val was always there with an open hand and an open heart. Her selflessness knew no bounds.
With a heart full of love and a spirit of service, she made a lasting impact on all who knew her. On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the Lord called Valencia home, but her legacy of love, compassion, faith, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Will Henry Grimes, Jr., and her beloved Aunt, Thelma Louise Driver.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Juanita P. Nash; siblings, Will Henry Grimes III (Carolyn), Paul D. Grimes (Quin), Ashton Grimes (Nyeisha), Samantha Nash, and Tiffany Nash; her forever Sister-in-Love, Carrie De Coud; as well as her godchildren, Chene (Martin), Jaime, and Steven. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
