Virgie Sampson

One memory I have with my Aunt Virgie is when I was a child. She was visiting us in Michigan and she let me hang around her most of the day. There is a quote from Maya Angelou that says people may forget what you said or did but they won't forget how you made them feel. Aunt Virgie made me feel loved. I remember the joy I felt when I found out she was my aunt that day. I didn''t get many more moments with Aunt Virgie in my lifetime. but I never forgot her love and warmth. Moments like that have helped me to remember to carry myself in a way where others can feel such warmth, love, and acceptance. May God bless Aunt Virgie with eternal bliss in heaven.

In my youth, at sixteen, our paths first crossed.
A bond was formed, no love was lost.
Like Ruth and Naomi, side by side,
A cherished bond that would not hide.

Through decades long, from young to old,
A mother’s warmth, a heart of gold.
You guided me through joy and strife,
A steady hand throughout life’s ride.

With prayers and meals, and words so kind,
A loving guide, a peace of mind.
You welcomed me into your home,
In every season, never alone.

And though you’re gone, your love remains,
A cherished bond, a sweet refrain.
As Ruth clung to Naomi’s side,
In love and faith, we did abide.

I gather now to say goodbye,
I honor you and let love fly.
In memories, your spirit lives on,
A mother-in-law, a lifelong bond.

I'm grateful to God for our prayers and journeys from 52nd to 104th. You're in my heart. See you in God's time.
